Most frequently asked by parents

Let's make room for your questions.

Will my child speak?

Will my child speak?

Since every child's communication and language development progresses differently, it is not right to give a definitive answer in advance. Through assessment, we determine your child's communication skills and needs, and speak openly with you about how progress can be made in which areas.

How long does the education take?

How long does the education take?

The duration varies depending on the child's needs, age, and progress; it would not be correct to specify an exact time frame from the beginning. The educational programme is prepared by our team, reviewed every 3 months, and re-planned according to progress.

Is it autism or not?

Is it autism or not?

Our centre conducts a preliminary assessment through observation, developmental scales, and parent interviews; if there is a suspicion, we refer you to a physician.

What should I do at home?

What should I do at home?

What to do at home is determined by your child's needs. We plan together what you will do and how, through a home programme, parent coaching, and video feedback.

When will it pass?

When will it pass?

Developmental conditions are not situations that “pass” like an illness; however, with the right support, the child's skills can develop. We set goals step by step and share the progress with you at the end of every session and during programme updates.

Common mistakes

Let's take a look at frequently heard phrases.

“Boys speak late”
Speech delay should not be explained by gender. If you have a concern, you should get an assessment instead of waiting.
“It will pass as they grow up”
Some difficulties do not pass on their own, and waiting can cause the loss of valuable time for early support. It is more appropriate to recognize the need early through an assessment.
“Let's send them to nursery, they will open up”
Nursery is a valuable social environment, but it does not meet a developmental need on its own. It is necessary to first assess the need and, if required, plan support alongside the nursery.
“They started school, no need for support”
School also requires new skills; starting school does not eliminate the need for support. If the family agrees, we continue the process together in cooperation with the teacher.
“They could do it if they wanted to”
Behind a challenging behaviour, there is often a skill not yet acquired, rather than a lack of desire. It is necessary to understand that skill and support it step by step.

What is discussed in the comprehensive specialist consultation?

During the consultation, your child's developmental history (anamnesis) is taken in detail: birth, developmental milestones, communication, play, and daily routine. The consultation is conducted by Psychologist (MSc) Burcu Cebeci Gürel, takes about 1 hour, and an oral evaluation is provided to you at the end.

Should I come to the first meeting with my child?

This may vary depending on how the meeting is planned. You just need to ask our assistant when booking an appointment; bringing your reports and previous test results, if any, will make the meeting easier.

How does the assessment process work?

If deemed necessary during the preliminary meeting, assessment tools appropriate for your child's needs are applied. The duration varies by tool; many tests take 30–60 minutes. The results are shared with you and form the basis of the educational programme.

What do you do in the preliminary assessment?

Our centre conducts a preliminary assessment by applying the necessary tests and scales, and refers you to a physician when needed.

Which age groups do you work with?

We work with children and adolescents aged 0–3, 3–6, 6–12, and over 12.

How are individual and group sessions determined?

Sessions are planned as a mix of individual and group work according to the child's needs. For a student with a Guidance and Research Centre (RAM) report, the plan is made according to the decision in the report; for a student without a report, we determine the number of sessions together with the family.

How often is the educational programme updated?

The individualized educational programme is prepared by the team and reviewed every 3 months. Progress is monitored through periodic test repetitions and observation notes.

What is covered in parent education?

Parent education is structured uniquely for each family; the child's learning style and the family's conditions are taken into consideration. Steps to be applied at home, a home programme, parent coaching, and video feedback are part of this process.

Where can I get information about the RAM report?

We explain the RAM process to parents over the phone and in face-to-face meetings; you can reach us at 0530 407 00 78. We also recommend that you consult your local RAM for up-to-date details such as documentation and duration.
