What is the structure of the Deniz Yıldızı team?
A total expert staff of 13 people works at Deniz Yıldızı Special Education. Our team includes psychologists, speech and language therapists, special education teachers, child development specialists, and an occupational therapist.
A child's development does not fit into a single area. A child struggling with speech may also need support with attention, sensory sensitivity, or social interaction. Having experts from different branches working under the same roof allows us to handle these needs as a whole, rather than isolated from one another.
Instead of introducing our experts one by one on our site, we prefer to share our staff as a whole. Because no matter which expert works with your child, they are backed by the same supervision system, the same team meetings, and the same program tracking.
How many experts are there from which branch?
The distribution of our staff by branches and the areas each branch generally provides support in are below.
| Branch | Number of people | In which areas do they generally provide support? |
|---|---|---|
| Psychologist | 6 (3 are psychologists with an MSc) | Developmental and psychological assessment, test and scale applications, behavioral and social-emotional areas, family interviews |
| Speech and language therapist | 2 | Assessment and support of language development, speech sounds, fluency, and communication skills |
| Special education teacher | 2 | Implementation of individualized education programs, academic and daily living skills, reading and writing assessments |
| Child development specialist | 2 | Play-based activities appropriate for early childhood, school readiness, and group work |
| Occupational therapist | 1 | Sensory profile, fine and gross motor skills, participation in activities of daily living |
| Total | 13 | The team working together under the supervision of Psychologist (MSc) Burcu Cebeci Gürel |

What is weekly supervision, and how does it work at Deniz Yıldızı?
Supervision is an experienced specialist regularly reviewing and guiding the work of educators in the team. At Deniz Yıldızı, supervision is held every week and is provided by our founder, Psychologist (MSc) Burcu Cebeci Gürel.
During supervision, children's programs, difficulties encountered in sessions, to what extent goals are being approached, and, if necessary, changes in methods are discussed. In this way, a situation that a single educator might not notice can be recognized early by an experienced eye.
Supervisions don't just stay as spoken words; they are recorded. Every supervision is documented with a written form and meeting note. Thanks to these records, decisions made and changes applied for a child can be tracked retrospectively.
For parents, this means: The educator working with your child evaluates their work every week together with an experienced specialist. The program is not based on a single person's opinion, but on a regular control system.
When is a multidisciplinary case meeting held, and who attends?
When a child's need concerns more than one area or when a new decision is required in the program, experts from different branches come together in a case meeting. These meetings are not tied to a specific schedule; they are held when necessary.
Psychologist
Shares assessment results, the child's developmental profile, and observations in behavioral and social-emotional areas.
Special education teacher
Relays progress seen in the implementation of the individualized program, goals struggled with, and observations on learning style.
Speech and language therapist
Shares their assessment of language, speech, and communication skills, and how goals in this area will reflect on other sessions.
Occupational therapist
Relays findings regarding the sensory profile, motor skills, and activities of daily living, as well as sensory needs that might affect learning.
How is the Individualized Education Program (IEP) prepared in the team?
The team collaboratively prepares the program for each child. The process generally proceeds with the following steps:
Collecting information
The developmental history taken during the initial consultation, assessment results, and observations from the family are brought together.
Setting goals
Measurable goals are written considering the child's strengths and areas needing support.
Task sharing
It is planned which goal will be worked on with which branch expert, and whether in individual or group sessions.
Implementation and recording
The program is implemented in the sessions; educators regularly keep observation notes and share them in weekly supervision.
Review every 3 months
The program is reviewed by the team every 3 months. Reached goals are replaced with new ones, and methods are changed for goals that pose a struggle.
How is my child's progress tracked?
We use a few complementary methods to monitor progress.
| Method | What is it for? | When? |
|---|---|---|
| Periodic test repetition | Comparing development by re-administering the tests and scales applied initially | Periodically, according to the child's program |
| Observation notes | Recording how target skills are progressing in sessions | Regularly throughout sessions |
| Weekly supervision | Evaluating observations together with an experienced specialist | Every week |
| IEP review | Updating goals and methods as a team | Every 3 months |
| Information to parent | Sharing what is being worked on in the session and what can be paid attention to at home | Brief feedback at the end of each session |
What does teamwork provide for me as a parent?
Working as a team has concrete benefits for families:
- Instead of moving between separate institutions for needs in different areas, your child is supported under the same roof.
- In the event an educator is on leave or changes, your child's program and past notes are on record within the team.
- Program decisions pass through the control of an experienced specialist via weekly supervision.
- Because you receive brief feedback at the end of each session, you stay involved in the process.
- In matters requiring a physician's decision, such as diagnosis or medication, we refer you to the right specialist.
