What is the experience of working at Deniz Yıldızı like?
Deniz Yıldızı Special Education was born from an expert's desire to grow her professional knowledge by sharing it with a team. When our founder, Psychologist (MSc) Burcu Cebeci Gürel, established the centre, she aimed not only to provide support to children but also to touch more lives by training new educators.
Therefore, working with us is not a job where you are left alone in a room by yourself. Programs are prepared collaboratively by the team, challenging situations are discussed in weekly supervision, and when necessary, colleagues from different branches come together in case meetings.
Every child encountered in special education brings a new question. We try to offer an environment where you can think about these questions together, receive regular feedback from an experienced specialist, and participate in a recorded, systematic working routine.
Which branches does the Deniz Yıldızı team consist of?
While evaluating your application, it might be useful to know the team you will work with. The current distribution of our staff is as follows:
| Branch | Number of people in the team |
|---|---|
| Psychologist | 6 (3 are psychologists with an MSc) |
| Speech and language therapist | 2 |
| Special education teacher | 2 |
| Child development specialist | 2 |
| Occupational therapist | 1 |
| Total | 13 |
What are the cornerstones of our working philosophy?
There are a few basic practices that shape the daily work of everyone who joins our team.
Weekly supervision
Supervision is provided every week by Psychologist (MSc) Burcu Cebeci Gürel. Supervisions are recorded with a written form and meeting note; thus, feedback becomes concrete and trackable.
Preparing programs as a team
Individualized education programs are prepared collaboratively by the team and reviewed every 3 months. No one is left alone with a child's program.
Multidisciplinary case meetings
When necessary, the psychologist, special education teacher, speech and language therapist, and occupational therapist evaluate the same case together. The opportunity to learn from the perspective of different branches emerges.
Data-driven tracking
Progress is monitored through periodic test repetitions and observation notes. Decisions rely on recorded observations.
Regular communication with the parent
Brief feedback is provided to the parent at the end of each session. Communicating with the family in plain and clear language is an inseparable part of our job.
Ethical framework
We do not make diagnoses and do not make exaggerated promises. We refer the family for matters requiring a physician's decision. We care that everyone on the team adopts this boundary.
Why do we place importance on training trainees and young colleagues?
Our founder, Burcu Cebeci Gürel, became acquainted with special education by doing an internship in her second year of university. This experience allowed her to see closely how much those newly stepping into the field need good guidance.
After establishing her centre, she included organizing trainee educations and managing peer supervisions among her duties. At the invitation of various universities, she shared insights on the field of special education and autism diagnosis with young prospective colleagues.
Additionally, she hosted the field's instructors in Izmir by organizing educator trainings related to autism and special education, many of which were held for the first time in Izmir. The common point of these efforts is the belief that knowledge multiplies as it is shared.
A colleague joining Deniz Yıldızı works within this accumulation: they are supported by weekly supervision, learn from different branches in team meetings, and over time, share their own experience with newcomers.
